InterContinental Maldives: Welcome
The Intercontinental Maamunagau, located on the fringes of the Raa Atoll, is a contemporary resort with a spacious setting, chic interiors and facilities which will appeal to families, groups of friends and couples alike. Spectacular beaches and sea views are, of course, a given.
LOCATION

The Intercontinental rests on the southern tip of the Raa Atoll, a swoon-y 40-minute seaplane transfer from capital city Malé. Raa Atoll neighbours Baa Atoll, a Unesco World Biosphere, which means its reefs attracts much of the same mesmerising marine life, including underwater traffic jams of minibus-sized manta rays. With eight acres of blinding white sands and enough length for complimentary guest bicycles, the Intercontinental would be considered a medium-sized island – suitably castaway with enough quiet spots to be able to hide.
ACCOMMODATION

Fringing the island are 81 villas, available in three categories; beach villas, overwater villas and duplex lagoon villas. The interiors are vibrant, with a grown-up use of texture and bright tropical colours. Wooden floors are patched with overlapping Persian rugs and oversized crochet cushions. Elsewhere, there are glossy turquoise lacquer tables, artfully beaded lamps, four-poster beds and large bathrooms. The beach villas, tucked away between palm trees on the natural part of the island, are the most quiet and private.
FACILITIES

There's an excellent watersports centre, staffed by marine biologists, where you can arrange snorkelling and diving trips around the Raa Atoll's wonderful reefs. Non-motorised watersports – stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, windsurfing – are complimentary. Aqua toys, such as jet skis, seabobs and water-skiing are available for a fee. Other activities include complimentary yoga at sunrise and sunset. There's also the excellent Avi Spa, with six gorgeous overwater treatment rooms, and an in-house doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. The kids' club is fantastic.
